The Beginner Singer
Working with a beginner takes a similar approach at first whatever the vocal category. The basics notions of posture and breathing are almost identical. However, once the true voice type of the student is established, a voice tutor must respect it. Teaching a soprano in the mezzo range does not help at all; training a tenor as a baritone until he gains high notes is counter-productive, to say the least. It is of the utmost importance that a student be trained in his/her appropriate vocal category.

Le travail avec un chanteur débutant suit un schéma similaire, quelle que soit la catégorie vocale. Les notions fondamentales de posture et de respiration sont presque identiques. Toutefois, à partir du moment où la véritable catégorie vocale est établie, un enseignant doit la respecter. Entraîner une soprano dans le registre de mezzo n’aide en rien; faire travailler un ténor comme baryton jusqu’à ce qu’il trouve ses notes aiguës est, pour le moins, contre-productif. Il est de la plus haute importance que l’élève soit entraîné dans sa catégorie vocale appropriée.
